PARRA.DICE

PARRA.DICE creates a vibrant mix of sounds from all corners of the world, resulting in a danceable and eclectic whole. The nine-piece collective features a full rhythm section, horns, and electric violin. On a beautiful summer day in 2020, PARRA.DICE first came together in what felt like a true paradise, where the first notes were played. “PARRA” refers to an expanded perspective, while “DICE” reflects the diverse sound and surprising stylistic combinations—ranging from Arabic influences and Cuban percussion to Ethiopian melodies and infectious bembé rhythms.

HKU Large Ensemble

Inspired by Frank Zappa’s motto, “A mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work if it is not open,” Corrie van Binsbergen worked with a hybrid group of HKU students. Listening to the whole and finding your place within it is key. The focus lies on color and dynamics, a sense of form, and an understanding of structure. Van Binsbergen selected pieces from her own repertoire and arranged them במיוחד for this large ensemble.
